GTCC alum spend his Sundays as a music director at three churches
Published on: November 13, 2024
Johnnie Draft III plays piano at one of the three churches at which he serves as music director. He earned two degrees at GTCC, is now a senior at N.C. Central University, and plans to pursue a master's degree or go to divinity school.
On a typical Sunday, Johnnie Draft III – or JD as his friends call him – gets up at 4 a.m. and doesn't stop serving his community until 9 p.m.
JD is a music director for not one, not two, but three churches.
A graduate of Guilford Technical Community College with degrees in music and education, JD is now an Interdisciplinary Studies senior at N.C. Central University.
He puts his education to work as he collaborates with choir members, manages rehearsals, organizes hymns, arranges song selections, and oversees outings to outside performances.
