Automotive Systems Technology - Ford ASSET
The Ford ASSET (Automotive Student Service Educational Training) program is the product of a partnership between Ford Motor Company, Ford/Lincoln dealerships, and GTCC.
The ASSET program allows you to get on-the-job training at sponsoring Ford and Lincoln dealerships while earning an Associate Degree in Automotive Systems Technology. During the work-based training, which takes place for eight weeks out of every sixteen-week semester, you will work full-time in the dealership while earning both college credit and a salary from the dealership.
A substantial benefit of this partnership is the availability of new Ford and Lincoln training vehicles for hands-on instruction at GTCC. Additionally, Ford Motor Company provides the college with components, tech data, computer-based training products, and Ford specialty tools to ensure that the ASSET students get the best possible training to prepare them for a career as a Ford service technician.

This program is five semesters long, including one summer. The course work is taught in split semesters. Typically, it is eight weeks at school and eight weeks at a Ford or Lincoln dealership.
You must start when the fall term begins in mid-August of each year. Additionally, you could start your appropriate academic courses any semester. Contact one of the Ford ASSET instructors for advising in determining the appropriate starting point.

You are required to attain sponsorship at a Ford or Lincoln dealership to work during the work-based learning portion of the class. Upon your successful completion and subsequent graduation of the program, the dealerships usually offer you full-time employment.
First, you may go to your local Ford or Lincoln dealer and ask for sponsorship in the Ford ASSET program. Additionally, you may contact one of the ASSET instructors, and they will help you find a dealership. The ASSET instructors work closely with several Ford and Lincoln dealerships across North Carolina and may know of opportunities in your area. Sponsorship means they will give you a place to work during the work-based learning portion of class.
You will earn Ford Factory Certifications in: electrical, steering and suspension, brakes, climate control, gas and diesel engine repair, gas and diesel engine performance, manual transmission and drivetrain, and automatic transmission. Also, you will earn an ASE A/C certification.
