What is Apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships are employer-driven programs that combine paid on-the-job learning with related classroom instruction to increase an apprentice’s skill level and wage potential at the completion of their education.
While apprenticeships are often thought as models for trades, employers are finding success in building programs as diverse as Healthcare, IT, and Supply Chain Management.

Benefits of Creating a Registered Apprenticeship Program
TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE & SUPPORT
When registering for an apprenticeship program through ApprenticeshipNC, a statewide government-funded organization, businesses receive guidance and support from a dedicated apprenticeship consultant who leads them through the registration process. This includes coordinating access to GTCC's professors to provide related classroom instruction. ApprenticeshipNC’s services are available at no charge.
NATIONAL CREDENTIAL
Graduates of Registered Apprenticeship Programs receive a national, industry-recognized credential.
QUALITY STANDARDS
Registration means the program has met national and independent standards for quality and rigor. Registration tells prospective employees, customers, and suppliers that you invest in your workforce and believe your employees are your most important asset!
FINANCIAL RESOURCES
Financial resources may be available from the state for businesses that register their apprentice program through ApprenticeshipNC. This may include wage reimbursements and resources for apprentice onboarding and training. Your ApprenticeshipNC consultant will inform you of reimbursements you may qualify to receive.
Apprenticeship Goals
ON-THE-JOB TRAINING
Every program includes structured on-the-job training that maps the skills and knowledge that the apprentice must learn throughout the program to be fully proficient at the job. Apprentices get hands-on training from an experienced mentor at the job site for typically not less than one year.
RELATED INSTRUCTION
Apprentices receive related instruction that complements on-the-job learning. This instruction delivers the technical, workforce, and academic competencies that apply to the job, and you can work with key educators to develop a curriculum based on the skills and knowledge apprentices need.
