Reverse Transfer
Reverse transfer is the process of awarding an associate degree for completing part of your degree requirements at Guilford Technical Community College and part of your requirements at a participating college or university in North Carolina.
When combined, your credits completed at GTCC and your eligible credits transferred from your university meet the degree and graduation requirements at GTCC.
Eligibility
- You must have completed/earned at least 25 percent (15 college-level credit hours) at Guilford Technical Community College.
- Your associate degree depends on the credits earned at the university; we will evaluate your credits to see if your combined credits meet the degree and graduation requirements.
- The State of North Carolina and participating universities send us data twice a year (in approximately February and July). We will evaluate your earned credits for the possibility of awarding the associate's degree until you have earned 90 semester hours. Your information may be sent to us multiple times for evaluation and we may contact you for additional information.
- You have to "opt-in" to participate if eligible.
How Reverse Transfer Works
When transferring to a participating college or university, you will be invited to participate in reverse transfer. Check your university emails on how to "opt-in" to the program, or check with an admissions counselor for specific instructions. The program works as follows:
- Enroll at a participating college or university.
- Opt-in to the Reverse Transfer Program through your college or university.
- After you have given permission for the university to send your records to us, you need to update your email address contact information with GTCC by providing your new college email account.
- The university will begin sending your records to us after you have earned at least 60 credits.
- We will download your data, evaluate your transcripts, pull in the appropriate courses, and determine if you are eligible.
- If you are eligible to receive a degree, you will receive an email with a link to the online Graduation Application you will be invited to participate in the following May's commencement ceremony.
- If you are not eligible at that time, the College Foundation of North Carolina or the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) will send notification.
