GTCC President, Anthony Clarke, Ph.D., named as Triad Business Journal’s Power Player list for fourth year

JAMESTOWN, N.C. (Oct. 25, 2024) – GTCC President Anthony Clarke, Ph.D., has been named to the Triad Business Journal Power Player list for fourth time.
Now in its eighth year, the annual program recognizes Triad business leaders that play a role in the momentum, engagement and contribute to the growth and transformation of the region.
“The Triad is at a critical juncture if it is to fully capitalize on recent successes,” shared Mark Gendle, Triad Business Journal publisher. “There are significant challenges ahead, from preparing the workforce to replenishing real estate inventories to ensuring the region continues to innovate. So, we’ve focused in on the key leaders who are most active in tackling those considerations and championing big picture efforts of regional significance.”
Clarke was one of 50 Power Players recognized in the 2024 class.
“It’s an honor to be selected as a member of the Triad Business Journal Power Player list, but it is an honor that highlights the hard work and dedication of everyone who works to make Guilford Technical Community College the outstanding institution it is,” said Clarke. “We have such a dedicated faculty and staff who strive daily to serve our students, our partners, and our communities. And the commitment of our student body to their success year after year makes amazing happen at GTCC.”
Under Clarke’s guidance, GTCC continues a post-pandemic upward trend, with enrollment increasing by over 5,000 students since the height of the pandemic in 2020-21. The college’s enrollment increased to 30,356 for the 2023-24 school year, making it the third largest community college in the North Carolina Community College System, according to statistics released recently by the North Carolina Community College System.
Included in this year’s program was an inaugural Legacy Award to longtime business and community member Jim Melvin. In addition to a panel discussion on how to keep the region moving forward with Bobby Long, the chairman of the Piedmont Triad Charitable Foundation, and Arthur Samet, the chairman and CEO of Samet Corp.
