EKG Cardiac Telemetry Technician Training Program

EKG Cardiac Telemetry Technicians operate specialized medical equipment to obtain diagnostic cardiac information for physicians.  They are also trained in interpreting a wide range of heart rhythms from basic to advanced levels.  At GTCC, you can complete the EKG Cardiac Telemetry Technician training program in just under two months, inclusive of 134 clock hours.  Your studies will cover cardiac anatomy and physiology, heart disease, pacemakers, medical terminology, and ethics.  Also, you will practice using 12-lead electrodes and interpreting EKG strips from basic to advanced, to provide data on heart performance.

This program will prepare students to apply for EKG, Cardiac Monitoring or Telemetry technician fields.  Cardiac monitor and telemetry technicians monitor multiple patients’ heart activity and interpret heart rhythms from a central monitoring center covering multiple acute care locations.  They work in basic and advanced levels of rhythm interpretation.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics projected the job openings for cardiovascular technologists and technicians (including vascular technicians), will increase by 10%.  That is faster than the average rate of other occupations.  Graduates of approved training programs are eligible to sit for national certification examinations that are offered by multiple certification sites.  Most employers prefer or require this certification.  Beginning pay is $16 to $18 per hour.
